abstract | The object of the present invention is a magnesium hydroxide particle that becomes a resin composition having excellent hardness, tensile strength, wear characteristics, acid resistance and no problem in workability and dispersibility when blended with a resin as a flame retardant. It is to provide a flame retardant mainly comprising a resin composition, a resin composition containing the flame retardant, and a molded product thereof. The present invention includes magnesium hydroxide particles, a first coating layer and a second coating layer, (I) a first coating layer is formed on the surface of the magnesium hydroxide particles, a second coating layer is formed on the surface of the first coating layer, (Ii) The first coating layer includes an inorganic compound of an element such as silicon, and the amount of the inorganic compound is 0.05 to 10% by weight in terms of oxide with respect to the total weight of the flame retardant, (Iii) The second coating layer includes an organic compound such as a higher fatty acid and a silane coupling agent, and the amount of the organic compound is 0.1 to 1.5% by weight based on the total weight of the flame retardant.
