[PROBLEMS] To provide a solid polymer electrolyte and a proton conductive membrane having high proton conductivity, high dimensional stability, and high mechanical strength. [Solution] The polymer segment (A) having a sulfonic acid group and the polymer segment (B) having substantially no sulfonic acid group, and the polymer segment (B) having substantially no sulfonic acid group are described below. A polyarylene block copolymer having a structural unit represented by the formula (1). (In the above formula (1), R 1 is a halogen atom, a hydrocarbon group having 1 to 20 carbon atoms, etc. L is a structural unit represented by the formula (1-1) or (1-2), and there are a plurality of units. At least one of L is a structural unit represented by the following formula (1-1), a represents an integer of 0 to 3, and p represents an integer of 2 to 200.
