abstract The present invention provides a gene (Vita1 gene) involved in promoting plant growth and increasing the amount of plant biomass and a method for using the gene. The transformant according to the present invention can promote cell division / expansion and tissue division. In particular, according to the transformed plant body, the growth of the plant is promoted and the biomass amount is increased. The method for producing a transformed plant according to the present invention is based on enhancing the expression of the Vita1 gene in a plant cell and regenerating the plant from the plant cell. Furthermore, the method for screening a growth promoting plant according to the present invention can select a growth promoting plant by detecting the expression level of the Vita1 gene.
