abstract | [Problem] Useful for proton conductive membranes that can be used for electrolytes for primary batteries, electrolytes for secondary batteries, polymer solid electrolytes for fuel cells, display elements, various sensors, signal transmission media, solid capacitors, ion exchange membranes, etc. Provided is a polyarylene-based copolymer including a structure having an aromatic ring phosphonated in a side chain. [Solution] A polyarylene copolymer comprising a structural unit represented by the following general formula (1). (In formula (1), each E independently represents a direct bond, —O—, —S—, —CO—, —SO 2 —, —SO—, —CONH—, or —COO— group. 1 represents at least one selected structure, and Ar 31 , Ar 32 , and Ar 33 each independently represents a divalent or trivalent organic group having a benzene ring, a naphthalene ring, or a nitrogen-containing heterocyclic ring, or a hydrogen atom.
