titleOfInvention | A novel living radical polymerization method using alcohol as a catalyst |
abstract | To provide an inexpensive, highly active, and environmentally friendly living radical polymerization catalyst. There is provided a catalyst for a living radical polymerization method, comprising a central element comprising oxygen and at least one halogen atom bonded to the central element. Alcohol compounds can also be used as catalyst precursors. In the presence of this catalyst, a monomer having a radical-reactive unsaturated bond is subjected to a radical polymerization reaction, whereby a polymer having a narrow molecular weight distribution can be obtained, and the cost of living radical polymerization can be dramatically reduced. The present invention has advantages such as low toxicity of catalyst, low use amount, high solubility, mild reaction conditions, no coloring and odorless (no post-treatment of molded product is required), and compared with conventional living radical polymerization methods. It is extremely environmentally friendly and economical. |
