We conducted a large-scale SNP analysis in Parkinson's disease patients and normal control groups, and succeeded in identifying a gene (GRK5) associated with Parkinson's disease. Further, it was newly found that expression of this GRK5 gene is promoted to promote phosphorylation of α-synuclein, and as a result, formation of soluble α-synuclein oligomer is promoted, leading to Parkinson's disease. By using the expression of the GRK5 gene as an index, it is possible to test for Parkinson's disease and screen for therapeutic drugs for Parkinson's disease. |
