abstract The transfer device receives a packet sent from one device in the network to the transmission path, and transfers the packet to another device. There are several types of streams to be transferred: those that do not have a time stamp attached to each packet, those that have a valid time stamp attached to each packet, and types that have an invalid time stamp attached to each packet. The transfer apparatus determines which of the above three types the stream to be transferred is based on one of the stream transfer source device, the stream transfer destination device, and the provider that supplied the stream. Then, based on the determination result, the transmission method for the stream to be transferred is selected from time stamped transmission and PCR reference transmission.
