abstract Provided is a liquid crystal light modulation element capable of stably modulating laser light having a wavelength of 500 nm or less over a long period of time. A liquid crystal light modulation element for modulating a laser beam having a wavelength of 500 nm or less, wherein a layer of a liquid crystal composition is sandwiched between a pair of opposing transparent substrates, wherein the pair of transparent substrates are provided on the opposite surface side. A liquid crystal light modulation device comprising an alignment film made of an electrode and polyimide on the surface, wherein the alignment film and the liquid crystal composition are in contact with each other, and the liquid crystal composition contains an antioxidant.
