abstract | An object of the present invention is to provide an α, β-unsaturated ketone in which a cyclopentenenitrile derivative, in particular, an optically resolvable cyclopentenenitrile derivative can be obtained in good yield with a small number of steps without using an expensive reagent or compound. An object of the present invention is to provide a method for synthesizing a cyclopentenenitrile derivative using a conjugate addition reaction of a nitrile derivative to the benzene. The present invention relates to an α, β-unsaturated ketone and a 4-alkoxy-3-butenenitrile which may have an alkyl group or an allyl group at the α-position, for example, 4-methoxy-3-butene. The compound obtained by the conjugate addition reaction with nitrile is captured as an enol ester using acetic anhydride or chlorocarbonate, and then treated with a strong acid to form a 5-membered ring to obtain a cyclopentenenitrile derivative.
