abstract An object of this invention is to provide the desulfurization purification method of hydrocarbon oil which reduces a sulfur compound to a trace concentration with comparatively little installation cost and operation cost. The hydrocarbon oil desulfurization method of the present invention includes a hydrocarbon oil containing at least one sulfur compound selected from the group consisting of thiophenes, benzothiophenes and dibenzothiophenes, or a hydrocarbon further containing an aromatic hydrocarbon. Oil is contacted with activated carbon on which a solid acid catalyst and / or a transition metal oxide is supported for desulfurization. The solid acid catalyst is preferably a solid superacid catalyst selected from sulfate zirconia, sulfate radical alumina, sulfate radical tin oxide, sulfate radical iron oxide, tungstate zirconia, and tungstate oxide.
