abstract | A liquid crystal display device having an optical anisotropic body and a liquid crystal cell between a pair of polarizers in which the respective absorption axes are substantially perpendicular to each other, the optical anisotropic body measured with light having a wavelength of 550 nm when the slow axis direction of the refractive index n x in each plane, the slow axis and the direction of the refractive index perpendicular in the plane n y in the plane, the refractive index in the thickness direction is n z, n z > n x > ny , and the optical anisotropic body is made of a layer containing a material having a negative intrinsic birefringence value, and the in-plane slow axis of the optical anisotropic body is disposed in the vicinity. A liquid crystal display device having a positional relationship substantially parallel or substantially perpendicular to an absorption axis of the polarizer. It is excellent in antireflection, scratch resistance and durability, has a wide viewing angle, and provides high contrast with a uniform display when viewed from any direction. |
