abstract | Provided is a method for producing 7-quinolinyl-3,5-dihydroxyhept-6-enoic acid ester useful as a pharmaceutical intermediate in high yield and high purity. Formula [I], (Wherein, R represents an alkyl group or an aryl group), or a compound represented by the formula [II]: (Wherein R is the same as defined above) by a compound represented by the formula [III]: (Wherein R ′ and R ″ each independently represent an alkyl group), after reduction with sodium borohydride in the presence of a boron compound represented by the formula (1), the reaction mixture is treated with aqueous hydrogen peroxide.
