abstract NEW MATERIAL:The 2-nitroimidazole derivative of formula (R is H or acetyl) and its salt. EXAMPLE:2-Nitroimidazole-1-acetohydroxamic acid. USE:Useful as a radiation sensitizer. It has low toxicity. PREPARATION:The compound of formula can be produced e.g. by reacting 2-nitroimidazole-1-acetic acid methyl ester with hydroxylamine or its derivative in a solvent (e.g., methanol) at 10-25 deg.C for 1-24hr. The amount of hydroxylamine, etc., is preferably 4-5mol. per 1mol. of the methyl ester.
