titleOfInvention Anti-aids viral agent
abstract PURPOSE:To obtain an anti-AIDS viral agent containing an extract obtained from pinecones of Pinus pentaphylla Mayr var. himekomatsu Makino with an aqueous alkali as an active ingredient. CONSTITUTION:An anti-AIDS viral agent containing polysaccharides, especially an effective KS-7 component contained in an extract obtained from pinecones [preferably Pinus thunbergii Parl. (Japanese black pine), Pinus densiflora Sieb. et Zucc. (Japanese red pine), especially Pinus pentaphylla Mayr var. himekomatus Makino] with an aqueous alkali as an active ingredient. T cells in blood are infected with AIDS viruses to induce immunological inhibition resulting in death. The KS-7 has not only anti-AIDS viral action but also immunological activity of remarkably activating monocytes derived fro human peripheral blood or polymorphonuclear leukocytes, etc. absent in other vegetable polysaccharides. Treatment is effectively carried out by using the KS-7 alone or in combination with other therapies or remedies (azidothymidine, suramin, etc.).
