titleOfInvention Production of acetylacetone
abstract PURPOSE:To effectively recover the titled compound consumed by a side reaction and to efficiently obtain the titled compound in reaction between methyl acetoacetate and acetic anhydride, adding a fixed amount of water to the reaction solution, heating and aging while stirring and separating by distillation. CONSTITUTION:In obtaining acetylacetone by reacting methyl acetoacetate with acetic anhydride, water in an amount corresponding to number of mols. of triacetylmethane prepared as a by-product, namely 0.2wt.%-3wt.% based on the formed reaction solution of water is added to the reaction solution, which is aged at >=60 deg.C, preferably >=80 deg.C for >=1hr while stirring and separated by distillation to give acetylacetone.
