titleOfInvention | Novel process for producing optically active 1-(p-tolyl) ethylamine |
abstract | PURPOSE:To obtain the titled compound useful as an optical resolution agent, in high yield and purity, by reacting (+ or -)-1-(p-tolyl)-ethylamine with an inexpensive resolution agent and separating the produced diastereomer salt taking advantage of the solubility difference. CONSTITUTION:(+ or -)-1-(p-Tolyl)ethylamine is made to react with 0.6-1.2 equivalent of a resolution agent comprising optically active 2-pyrrolidone-5-carboxylic acid or optically active 2-(6-methoxy-2-naphthyl)propionic acid in a solvent (e.g. 2-propanol) preferably at a temperature between about 50 deg.C and the boiling point of the solvent. The reaction product is heated and dissolved to form a supersaturated solution. If necessary, the solution is added with a small amount of a diastereomer salt having lower solubility in said solvent among the two kinds of the diastereomer salts and cooled preferably to 0-50 deg.C. The precipitated hardly soluble salt is separated to obtain the objective compound. |
