titleOfInvention Production of 5-amino-2,4,-triiodoisophthalic acid
abstract PURPOSE:To obtain 5-amino-2,4,6-triiodophthalic acid (AIPA) useful as an intermediate for Roentgen contrast medium having extremely low intravenous toxicity, by treating filtrate after crystal separation obtained by producing AIPA with an active carbon and then concentrating the filtrate in order to re-utilizing the filtrate. CONSTITUTION:When 5-amino-2,4,6-triiodoisophthalic acid (AIPA) is produced, a filtrate obtained by separating a product crystal is treated with an active carbon or ion exchange resin to decolorize and purify the filtrate. Then the filtrate is concentrated and excess water and hydrochloric acid is distilled out to give about 20wt.% aqueous hydrochloric acid solution containing AIPA and other unreacted material, which is then re-utilized as a raw material of AIPA for dissolving iodine monochloride or as a reaction solvent. By the above- mentioned method, unit consumption of the raw material is improved and waste treating process is simplified or obviated.
