titleOfInvention | Liquid crystal compound |
abstract | NEW MATERIAL:A liquid crystal compound shown by formula I (R1 and R2 are 1-20C alkyl; X1 and X2 are -O-, group shown by formula II or formula III; Y is CN, NO2, F, Cl or Br). EXAMPLE:1,4-Bis(4'-nonyloxybenzoyl)benzoic acid 4-cyanophenyl ester. USE:A liquid crystal compound of a readily mixable nematic type, showing high- speed response with about 1msec response speed, useful as a liquid display element for liquid crystal television receiver, light printer, watch and electronic calculator. PREPARATION:A carboxylic acid shown by formula IV is reacted with SOCl2 in toluene to give an acid chloride, which is esterified with a dihydrobenzoic acid shown by formula V in THF in the presence of triethylamine to form a compound shown by formula VI. This compound is esterified with a phenol shown by formula VII to give a compound shown by formula I wherein R1X1 is equal to R2X2. |
