PURPOSE: To improve the holdout characteristics of a printing ink, etc., for a flat material comprising fibers and improve the de-inking of the fibers by introducing a specific organophilic complex into a fibrous material, reacting the complex with an organic solvent and forming a barrier layer. CONSTITUTION: An organophilic complex comprising (A) a water-insoluble hydrated cation-exchangeable film-forming smectite type layered silicate having at least 50 mVal/100 g ion exchange capacity and (B) an organic residue derived from an onium compound attached to the component A is introduced into a fibrous material or the surface of a fibrous-form material to form a barrier layer by the reaction of the organophilic complex with an organic solvent. Thereby, the holdout characteristics of a printing ink, a lacquer and a coating material without any organic solvent for the flat material comprising fibers, especially a paper are improved to further improve the de-inking of the fibers. |
