titleOfInvention | Removal of solvent from chlorinated polymer |
abstract | PURPOSE:To obtain a chlorinated polymer having high quality, resistant to thermal deterioration and useful as paint, ink, adhesive, etc., by contacting a solvent remaining in a chlorinated polymer with liquid carbon dioxide, thereby efficiently removing the solvent to a low concentration. CONSTITUTION:A chlorinated polymer produced by the chlorination of a polymer such as polyethylene, natural rubber or polyisoprene is added with preferably 1-10% of a plasticizer and is made to contact with liquid carbon dioxide usually at -40-+30 deg.C under 5-250kg/cm<2> to remove the solvent (e.g. carbon tetrachloride) remaining in said chlorinated polymer. The residual hydrocarbon solvent in the polymer can be decreased usually to <=0.5% and the degradation of the polymer can be prevented because of the low-temperature treatment. |
