titleOfInvention Brassinolide analogous compound
abstract NEW MATERIAL:A compound expressed by formula I (X and Y are H, OH, CH3 or CH2OH; Z is H, OH, lower alkyl; X and Y together may form methylene or -CH2O-, except when X is CH3 and Y and Z are H). EXAMPLE:(22R,23R,24R)-2alpha,3alpha,22,23,28-Pentahydroxy-beta-homo-7- oxa-5alpha-ergostan-6- one [= 28-hydroxybrassinolide (X is CH3; Y is H; Z is OH in formula I)]. USE:A plant growth regulator capable of exhibiting excellent physiological action in rice plant lamina bending tests and wheat lamina extending tests utilized as biological tests of plant hormone. PREPARATION:A castasterone derivative expressed by formula II (R is OH- protecting group) is subjected to the Baeyer-Villiger oxidation to provide a lactone ring in a solvent, such as CH2Cl2, using H2O2 and trichloroperacetic acid and the resultant product is subsequently refluxed in KOH-MeOH while being heated to remove all the OH-protecting groups and afford the aimed compound expressed by formula I.
