titleOfInvention Agent for increasing tissue glutathione level
abstract PURPOSE:To obtain the titled improving agent, remedy for hepatic diseases, remedy for cataract and remedy for renal diseases exhibiting excellent effect to prevent the crisis of cataract, by using gamma-L-glutamyl-L-cysteine methyl ester or its oxidized dimer as an active component. CONSTITUTION:The objective agent for increasing tissue glutathione level, a remedy for hepatic diseases, a remedy for cataract and a remedy for renal diseases contains, as an active component, the gamma-L-glutamyl-L-cysteine methyl ester of formula known as a substrate for glutathione peroxidase or an oxidized- type gamma-L-glutamyl-L-cysteine methyl ester (oxidized-type dimer) which is a dimer of the component of formula produced by forming a disulfide bond by the dehydrogenation reaction of two molecules of the compound of formula. Since the compound has SH group, the compound or its metabolic product is expected to exhibit various drug actions.
