PURPOSE:To efficiently produce D-serine useful as an intermediate for medicines, by cultivating a specific microorganism in a culture medium containing DL- serine and selectively assimilating only L-serine. CONSTITUTION:A microorganism belonging to yeast, such as the genus Candida, Torulopsis, Cryptococcus, Saccharomycopsis or Hansenula, or bacteria, such as the genus Escherichia, Klebsiella, Providencia, Microbacterium or Serratia, and having the ability to assimilate L-serine without substantially assimilating D-serine is cultivated in a culture medium containing DL-serine and D-serine secreted into the culture fluid is then isolated and collected. |
