titleOfInvention Production of alkaloid
abstract PURPOSE:To efficiently produce an alkaloid, by transforming solanaceous plant cells with an Ri plasmid belonging to the genus Agrobacterium and cultivating the resultant hairy roots. CONSTITUTION:Part (T-DNA of an Ri plasmid of a microorganism Agrobacterium rhizogenes is introduced into stems, roots, leaves, etc., of a solanaceous plant to provide transformed hairy roots. The above-mentioned hairy roots in an amount of about 10mg-1g (fresh weight) are then inoculated into 50ml liquid culture medium containing 0.1muM-1,000mM inorganic component, 1-120g/l carbon source and 0.01-10muM plant growth regulator substance and 0.1-100mg/l each of vitamins and amino acids and continuously cultivated at 10-35 deg.C, especially 23-28 deg.C by a batch or column method, etc., to recover the aimed alkaloid from the obtained culture.
