titleOfInvention Smoking substance and its production
abstract PURPOSE: To produce a smoking material which is capable of changing its properties over an extended range and also provided with desirable aroma and flavor by treating a slurry consisting of cellulose fiber, a burning modifier, crystalline sugar, a wetting agent and water. CONSTITUTION: This production comprises: (a) preparing a mixture consisting of cellulose fiber, a burning modifier, >=20wt.% of crystalline sugar, a wetting agent and water; (b) grinding the mixture to form a slurry; and further, (c) treating the slurry to produce the objective smoking material product. The treatment comprises for example, subjecting the slurry or a paste formed from the slurry to casting or extrusion to form a formed body; further drying the formed body to obtain a dried product and then curing the dried product. The curing is performed by storing (curing) the dried product normally for three days to three weeks to entirely or partly crystallize the added sugar. The curing period depends mainly on properties and concn. of the sugar and properties and concn. of the wetting agent. When the sugar component of the dried product consists of only lactose, the curing period is short. On the other hand, when the sugar component of the dried product consists of only glucose or galactose, the curing period becomes longer.
