titleOfInvention | Optically active benzoic acids and production thereof |
abstract | NEW MATERIAL:Optically active benzoic acids expressed by formula I (R is 1-20C alkyl or alkoxyalkyl which may be substituted by halogen; formula II is asymmetric carbon atom.). EXAMPLE:(-)-4-(1-Propoxyethyl)benzoic acid. USE:An intermediate for organic electronic materials (e.g. liquid crystal materials), medicines, agricultural chemicals, etc. PREPARATION:A compound expressed by formula III (R' is lower alkyl) is reduce with a reducing agent to provide a compound expressed by formula IV, which is subsequently reacted with lower alkylcarboxylic acids to affords a compound expressed by formula V (R'' is lower alkyl). The resultant compound expressed by formula V is then asymmetrically hydrolyzed with an esterase having the ability to asymmetrically hydrolyze the above-mentioned compound to provide an optically active substance expressed by formula VI, which is subsequently reacted with a compound expressed by the formula R-X (X is halogen or OSO2R'''; R''' is phenyl which may be substituted by lower alkyl) to afford an optically active substance expressed by formula VII. The obtained compound expressed by formula VII is then hydrolyzed under alkaline condition to provide the aimed substance expressed by formula I. |
