abstract PURPOSE: To obtain a medicine composition containing thiodioxolane derivative, having mucus-decomposing activities and suitable for treatment for excess secretion of bronchial mucus by including a specific thiodioxolane derivative. CONSTITUTION: This medicine composition containing thiodioxolarne derivative having mucus-decomposing activities includes a compound of the formula C* represents an asymmetric center of the molecule; X is OH or SR" (R" is H or an acyl); R is H, a lower alkyl, a lower hydroxyalkyl or phenyl; R' is a lower alkyl, a lower hydroxyl alkyl, phenyl or (CH2 )n SR"[(n) is 1-3]}, e.g. 2 (acetylthio)-ethyl-1,3-dioxolane-4-methanol with 21 pharmaceutically permissible carrier. The compound of the formula is obtained by treating the corresponding dioxolane derivative with a suitable alkali thioacylate in a polar solvent at 25-80 deg.C to provide a thioester and hydrating the obtained thioester with an alkali.
