titleOfInvention Removal of formalin odor from formalin resin
abstract PURPOSE: To remove easily and completely a formalin odor from a formalin resin, by adding ammonium hydrogencarbonate or ammonium carbonate to a melt of a formalin addition condensation resin redolent of formalin and subjecting the mixture to vacuum treatment. n CONSTITUTION: Ammonium hydrogencarbonate or ammonium carbonate is added to a melt of a formalin addition condensation resin (e.g., phenol/formalin resin or toluenesulfonamide/formalin resin) redolent of formalin. The amount of addition is preferably about 1W5wt.% based on the resin. The formed mixture is subjected to vacuum treatment to remove formalin odor from the resin. The vacuum treatment is preferably carried out under conditions including a vacuum of about 10W60mm Hg,. a bulk temperature of about 100W130°C and a treating time of about 0.5W2hr. The obtained resin is freed of anyu formalin odor so that it can be suitably used for cosmetic products, etc. n COPYRIGHT: (C)1989,JPO&Japio
