abstract PURPOSE: To obtain a solubilized condensed polycyclic aromatic resin which can be extensively used in various industrial fields, by using a polar organic compound as a solvent in polycondensing a polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbon with a specified aromatic compound. n CONSTITUTION: A condensed polycyclic aromatic resin is obtained by polycondensing a polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbon with an aromatic compound of the general formula: Ar(CH 2 X) n (wherein Ar is an aromatic hydrocarbon group, X is an acidic group, and n is an integer of 1W4) in the presence of an acid catalyst. In this polycondensation, a polar organic compound is used as a solvent. As said solvent, a lower nitroalkane such as nitromethane or nitroethane or an aromatic nitro compound such as nitrobenzene or nitrotoluene is desirable. A polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbon mixture contained in a tar fraction can be used as an inexpensive material for the polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbon in addition to pure materials. n COPYRIGHT: (C)1988,JPO&Japio
