abstract PURPOSE: To obtain particles having excellent particle size uniformity, sphericity and porosity and giving a useful carrier for chromatography by saponification, by forming a droplet of a solution of a cellulose organic acid ester in an aqueous medium and coagulating the droplet with a polyhydric alcohol. n CONSTITUTION: An organic solvent solution of a cellulose organic acid ester is dripped into an aqueous medium to form liquid droplets and a water-soluble polyhydric alcohol is added to the resultant droplet/aqueous medium dispersion system to coagulate the ester in the liquid droplet. The water-soluble polyhydric alcohol is selected from ethylene glycol, glycerol and 1,3-propanediol. The cellulose organic acid ester is e.g. cellulose triacetate, cellulose acetate butyrate, etc., and the solvent is preferably a mixed solvent containing methanol, propionic acid ester, acetone, etc. n COPYRIGHT: (C)1988,JPO&Japio
