abstract | PURPOSE: To improve the dispersibility of magnetic powder and to improve the electromagnetic conversion characteristic, soft error and durability of the titled medium by using a binder contg. at least 5wt% shellac resin having 65W100 acid value. n CONSTITUTION: The shellac resin having 65W100 acid value is incorporated at least at 5wt%, more particularly preferably ≥15wt% into the binder consisting of a vinyl chloride/vinyl acetate polymer. Also, ≤30wt% crosslinking agent such as polyisocyanate as well as lubricating oil such as fluorine-modified Si, oil, fillers, plasticizers, etc., are used in combination with the binder. The better dispersion is attained if ferromagnetic material powder such as γ-Fe 2 O 3 is dispersed into the fiber by using a solvent such as ethanol. The adhesiveness between said binder and powder is extremely high to obviate the exfoliation of the magnetic powder.
