PURPOSE: To safely obtain a carboxylic acid in high yield and purity at a low cost, by oxidatively cleaving olefins using hydrogen peroxide in the presence of a catalyst selected from tungstic acid, molybdic acid and heteropoly-acids thereof. n CONSTITUTION: Olefins are oxidatively cleaved to produce a carboxylic acid useful as a raw material for esters, imides, amides, etc. In the process, the above-mentioned reaction is carried out by using hydrogen peroxide in the presence of one or more catalyst selected from tungstic acid, molybdic acid and heteropoly-acids thereof, preferably heteropoly-acid containing P or Si as a hetero atom, particularly H 3 PW 12 O 40 , H 3 SiW 12 O 40 , H 3 PMo 12 O 40 and tungstic acid to safely afford the aimed compound in good yield and high purity at a low cost without using toxic metals with relatively ready separation of the product. n COPYRIGHT: (C)1988,JPO&Japio |
