abstract | PURPOSE: To obtain the titled compound in high yield at a low cost with remarkably shortened production process using an ordinary apparatus, by reacting pentanal with a lower alkyl ester of crotonic acid in the presence of samarium (II) iodide. n CONSTITUTION: The objective compound is produced by reacting 1-pentanal with a lower alkyl ester of crotonic acid (preferably methyl ester) in the presence of samarium (II) iodide which is a reducing coupling agent preferably in a reaction solvent such as THF. The reaction temperature is preferably -5W+25°C. The amount of the crotonic acid ester is preferably 2W4mol per 1mol of 1-pentanal and that of samarium (II) iodide is usually ≥1mol per 1mol of the raw material. n COPYRIGHT: (C)1988,JPO&Japio |
