titleOfInvention Production of dihydroisophorone
abstract PURPOSE: To obtain the titled high purity compound in good yield, in simple fractionation, by heating a mixture containing isophorone, etc., in an autoclave in the presence of a Raney nickel catalyst at a specific temperature while stirring. n CONSTITUTION: A mixture consisting of isophorone expressed by formula I, as necessary containing dihydroisophorone expressed by formula III, 3,3,5- trimethyl cyclohexanol and isopropanol expressed by formula II is heated in an autoclave in the presence of a Raney nickel catalyst, preferably in an amount of 0.5W10wt% at 150W200°C for 5W10hr while stirring to convert trans-form of 3,3,5-trimethylcyclohexanol into cis-form thereof and simple fractionation from the resultant reaction particle solution provides the aimed high purity compound expressed by formula III in good yield. The compound is used as an intermediate of organic synthesis, solvent in a nitrocellulose emulsion for leather product, curing catalyst for unsaturated polyester resin and curing agent, of elastomer, etc. n COPYRIGHT: (C)1988,JPO&Japio
