abstract PURPOSE: To control the energy density in the amplitude direction of a tetral PCM signal by changing a mark rate of a pseudo random pattern used as another column of signal in converting 2-column of PCM signal into a column of tetral PCM signal and sending the signal by a PCM communication equipment and in sending the 1 column PCM signal. n CONSTITUTION: The 1st one column PCM signal is given to a 1st input erminal 11 of a binary/tetral converter 1 and a 2nd one column PCM signal is given normally via a switch 2 to the 2nd input terminal 12. In sending only a 1st one column PCM signal, the 2nd input terminal 12 is thrown to a pseudo random pattern generator 3 whose mark is variable synchronously with the PCM signal by using the switch 2 and the frequency of the generator 3 is deviated in response to the output level of the FSK modulator conected to the output terminal 13 of the converter 1 at the same time.
