titleOfInvention Production of foamable copolymer resin particle
abstract PURPOSE: To produce the titled resin particles having uniform particle diameter and excellent heat-resistance, by adding a monomer mixture containing an N-aromatic maleimide to an aqueous suspension of specific polymer particles having preliminarily uniformized particle diameter, copolymerizing the monomers and impregnating a foaming agent to the copolymer. n CONSTITUTION: (A) 95W30pts.(wt.) of a mixture of 0.5W30(wt)% maleimide of formula (Ar is aryl) (preferably N-phenyl maleimide), 40W70% α- methylstyrene, 10W40% acrylonitrile and 0W20% vinyl monomer copolymerizable therewith is added to (B) a suspension produced by dispersing 5W70pts. of polymer particles having preliminarily uniformized particle diameter and containing 10W50% vinyl cyanide monomer (preferably acrylonitrile and/or methacrylonitrile) in an aqueous medium and the monomers are copolymerized at 60W150°C in the presence of a polymerization initiator. The objective foamable resin particles can be produced by impregnating an organic foaming agent to the copolymer during or after the copolymerization process. n COPYRIGHT: (C)1988,JPO&Japio
