abstract PURPOSE: To eliminate nonuniformity in wetting of electrodes and remaining of bubbles and to perform stable electrochemical measurement, by forming an enzyme reaction layer, which comprises water absorbing macromolecules, glucose oxidase and mutarotase, on the electrodes. n CONSTITUTION: An electrode system comprising at least a measuring electrode 2 and a counter electrode 3, is formed on an insulating substrate 1. An enzyme reaction layer 6, which comprises water absorbing macromolecules, glucose oxidase and mutarotase, is provided on the electrode system. Thus, a sample liquid, in which an electron acceptor is dissolved, is absorbed into the water absorbing macromolecules in the enzyme reaction layer 6. A liquid film layer comprising gelled uniform sample liquid is formed on the electrodes. Thus the nonuniformity of wetting of the electrodes and remaining of bubbles can be eliminated.
