abstract PURPOSE: To prepare an addition polymer having an excellent heat resistance, by polymerizing a product obtd. by the heat treatment of dicyclopentadienes and ethylene in the presence of a Ziegler catalyst. n CONSTITUTION: A dicyclopentadiene is submitted to heat treatment in the presence of an antioxidant, if necessary, in an inert gaseous atmosphere at 120W250°C for 0.5W20hr to give a product A which is waxy with a coagulating point of 100°C or lower, or which is oily with a viscosity of 200cps (at 30°C). The component A and ethylene B in a molar ratio of B to A of 95W0/5W100 are polymerized in the presence of a Ziegler catalyst C consisting of a transition metal compd., such as a Ti compd., a Ti compd. supported on an Mg compd. or a V compd., and a reducing agent, such as an alkylaluminum compd., in a hydrocarbon medium under a pressure of 0W50kg/cm 2 at -50W300°C to give an addition polymer.
