abstract PURPOSE: To increase yield, by using a chitosan oligosaccharide or light chitosan hydrolyzate obtained from chitosan which is polysaccharides prepared by deacetylating chitin contained in shells of lobsters, crabs, etc., as a coating agent for seeds. n CONSTITUTION: A coating agent for seeds containing chitosan oligosaccharide or light chitosan hydrolyzate obtained by hydrolyzing chitosan with chitosanase [produced by Bacilius No.7-M (FERM-P No.8139)] and having 20W600mg-D- glucosamine/g-chitosan formed reducing saccharide content as an active ingredient. Seeds of crops are coated with by dipping in a solution of the chitosan oligosaccharide or light chitosan hydrolyzate and drying the seeds. The seeds of the crops are preferably dipped in a solution of the chitosan oligosaccharides, etc., and adding an aqueous solution of an alkaline substance, such as aqueous ammonia, thereto. n COPYRIGHT: (C)1988,JPO&Japio
