titleOfInvention Basket of vessel for transporting and storing spent nuclear fuel
abstract PURPOSE: To manufacture a basket simple and also to secure a subcritical property, by using a cell which is provided with a neutron absorber plate as an attachment and made of a material of excellent heat conductivity and which has a thick part on the outer periphery and a shape of a square horizontal section. n CONSTITUTION: A basket grating of a fuel container 4 is formed by welding 7 cells 2 of a material of excellent heat conductivity at the thick parts thereof, and each cell 2 is formed by combining together four segments 8 having a neutron toxicant 6 fitted at the back of a fuel assembly surface. The thick part 5 is provided in one side end of the segment 8, and a large number of cells 2 are combined together through the intermediary of the thick parts 5, while water or the like is filled up between the adjacent cells 2 to provide neutron absorbing regions 3a and 3b. By this constitution, a basket can be manufactured simply and a subcritical property can be secured without fail. By using an Al alloy or the like, besides, the weight of the basket can be made small, and the performance thereof to drive off heat can be improved. n COPYRIGHT: (C)1988,JPO&Japio
