abstract PURPOSE:To obtain a hair tonic, containing an extract prepared by extracting beer yeast fungal cells with absolute or hydrous ethanol, etc., and capable of suppressing depilation and promoting hair production. CONSTITUTION:A hair tonic in the form of shampoo, rinse, hair lotion, hair oil, pomade, liquid brilliantine, hair cream, hair tonic, etc., containing 0.001-5wt.% extract of beer yeast fungal cells with an organic solvent (preferably absolute or hydrous ethanol). In extraction, a dehydrated substance obtained by compressing beer yeast fungal cells with a filter press to provide a solid form with 20-30% moisture content of freeze-drying the fungal cells to afford dried fungal cells is used. An organic solvent in a volume of 0.1-5l based on 20g freeze-dried fungal cells is used to carry out the extraction at a temperature of room temperature - boiling point of the solvent for 1hr-3 weeks. Hormones, vitamins, crude drug extracts, menthol, perfumes, etc., can be contained in the above-mentioned hair tonic.
