titleOfInvention Production of methacrylamide based copolymer
abstract PURPOSE: To obtain the titled copolymer, having homogeneous composition good appearance and capable of providing molded products having excellent heat resistance, by bulk polymerizing methacrylamide and a monomer copolymerizable therewith in a complete mixing type polymerizer and devolatilizing the formed copolymer. n CONSTITUTION: (A) Methacrylamide in an amount of 3W55pts.wt. is initially bulk copolymerized with (B) 45W97pts.wt. monomer, selected from styrene based monomers expressed by the formula (R 1 WR 3 are H, Cl, Br or 1W3C alkyl), acrylonitrile and methyl methacrylate and copolymerizable with the component (A), preferably at 70W250°C in a complete mixing type polymerizer and the formed copolymer is normally subjected to devolatilizing treatment in an extruder to afford the aimed copolymer. Furthermore, devolatilizing treatment is preferably carried out in devolatilizing in the extruder by a method for injecting methanol, etc., into the copolymer, kneading and decompressing the copolymer, through a vent hole of the extruder. n COPYRIGHT: (C)1988,JPO&Japio
