abstract | PURPOSE: To obtain high-purity galactooligosaccharide having promoting action on multiplication of Bifidobacterium, by treating lactose with a specific enzyme to convert to oligosaccharide and then using a specific chromatography. n CONSTITUTION: Lactose is treated with an enzyme (preferably β-galactosidase) capable of converting lactose to an oligosaccharide shown by the formula Gal-(Gal) n -Glc (Gal is galactose residue, Glc is glucose residue and n is 1W4 integer) or a bacterium to produce the enzyme to give a saccharide solution containing the oligosaccharide. Then a saccharide component is separated from the saccharide solution by column chromatography packed with a strongly acidic cation exchange resin and a fraction containing highly concentrated galactooligosaccharide is collected from the eluted solution of the column. n COPYRIGHT: (C)1988,JPO&Japio |
