PURPOSE: To easily obtain the objective compound having high quality, with simple operation, by dehydrating a tertiary amine with an adsorbent and using the dehydrated amine in the production of an alkyl ketene dimer from a fatty acid halide and a recovered tertiary amine. n CONSTITUTION: An alkyl ketene dimer is produced from a fatty acid halide and a tertiary amine recovered from the reaction process. In the above process, the recovered amine to be used as a raw material is dehydrated at 0W50°C, preferably 10W30°C with an adsorbent such as activated alumina, natural zeolite, synthetic zeolite, silica gel, silica and alumina, preferably natural zeolite or synthetic zeolite. The by-production of fatty acid anhydride, etc., caused by water can be suppressed by the use of the tertiary amine and the objective compound having high quality comparable to the compound produced by using a fresh tertiary amine can be produced at a low cost without necessitating particular apparatus and complicate operation. n COPYRIGHT: (C)1988,JPO&Japio |
