titleOfInvention Energy analyzer of neutral particle
abstract PURPOSE: To achieve a higher S/N ratio in measuring sensitivity, by interrupting neutral particles after passing through a stripping cell to remove effect due to a β - decay of tritium. n CONSTITUTION: A vacuum container 1 is connected to a nuclear fuser not illustrated with a vacuum joint. Neutral particles 5 incident from the nuclear fuser are ionized with charge exchange by a neutral gas existing in a stripping cell 2. A square wave voltage from a square wave generation power source 9 repeating positive and zero voltage is applied to an electrostatic deflection plate 7. With the application of the zero voltage, the ionized neutral particles 6 pass through a slit 8 and turns within a deflection means 3 comprising an electromagnet with the radius corresponding to energy to be incident into a particle detector 4. As with the application of the positive voltage to the deflection plate 7, the particles 6 are not allowed to pass through the slit 8, an output of the detector 4 gives a background noise alone due to a β - decay of tritium mixed into the particles 5. This noise is subtracted from an output of the detector 4 thereby achieving a higher S/N ratio. n COPYRIGHT: (C)1988,JPO&Japio
