abstract PURPOSE: To obtain a polymer molding of a wide application field from easily available materials, by bulk-polymerizing a specified metathesis-polymerizable monomer in the presence of a matathesis polymerization catalyst system. n CONSTITUTION: In a process for producing a polymer molding by bulk- polymerizing a metathesis-polymerizable monomer in the presence of a matathesis polymerization catalyst system, said monomer is one comprising at least one polycyclic metathesis-polymerizable monomer having one norbornene structure and one or two aryl substituents in the molecule or a mixture thereof with at least one other metathesis-polymerizable monomer. In order to obtain said polymer molding, the reactants need be reacted in a liquid state, so that it is desirable that the monomer mixture is liquid at 80°C or below. Examples of such polycyclic metathesis-polymerizable monomers include 5- phenylnorbornene and 1,4-methano-1,1a,4,4a-tetrahydrofluorene. n COPYRIGHT: (C)1988,JPO&Japio
