titleOfInvention | Production of trichlorosilane |
abstract | PURPOSE: To easily produce trichlorosilane at a very low temp. close to room temp. by electrolyzing silicon tetrachloride in the presence of a supporting electrolyte, a hydrogen donor and a solvent. n CONSTITUTION: A solvent contg. a dissolved supporting electrolyte is poured into an electrolytic cell, silicon tetrachloride contg. a dissolved hydrogen donor is further poured and electric current is supplied to electrolyze the silicon tetrachloride. The solvent used is a solvent inert to silicon tetrachloride and chlorosilanes such as trichlorosilane, preferably an aprotic polar solvent which dissolves the hydrogen donor and the supporting electrolyte, e.g., dimethoxyethane or acetonitrile. A quat. ammonium salt is preferably used as the supporting electrolyte. Arom. diol having two hydroxyl groups bonded directly to the arom. ring is preferably used as the hydrogen donor. n COPYRIGHT: (C)1988,JPO&Japio |
