titleOfInvention Styrene copolymer modified with anionically polymerized rubber
abstract PURPOSE: To provide the title polymer which has excellent flow characteristics and gives molded products having excellent appearances, gloss and resistance to impact and heat, by copolymerizing a monomer mixture of styrene with acrylonitrile in the presence of a rubbery polymer obtd. by anionic polymn. n CONSTITUTION: 22% (by weight; the same applies hereinafter) styrene is anionically polymerized with 78% butadiene to obtain a rubbery copolymer (B) having a styrene- insoluble matter content of 0.1% or lower and such a particle size distribution that the ratio of the area of rubber particles having the max. cell diameter not smaller than 0.1μ (volume-average particle size : 0.3W4.0μ) is 2W60% and that of the area of rubber particles having the max. cell diameter smaller than 0.1μ (volume-average particle size) is 98W40% when the total area a of the rubber particles are referred to as 100%. The component B is added to a monomer mixture (A) of 90W55% styrene (a), 10W45% acrylonitrile (b) and optionally 1W30% [based on the total amount of the components (a) and (b)] maleimide monomer (c). The mixture is copolymerized in the presence of a polymn. initiator and an MW modifier to obtain the title copolymer which has a styrene soln. viscosity of 2W250cp (25°C) and in which the component B is dispersed in the form of particles. n COPYRIGHT: (C)1988,JPO&Japio
