titleOfInvention Biaxially oriented polyester film
abstract PURPOSE:To obtain the titled film outstanding in slipperiness, scratch and shaving resistances, etc., suitable as a base for esp. densification recording medium, by incorporating a polyester with specified proportion of each specific spherical silica particles and other inert inorganic particles. CONSTITUTION:A reaction system in the production of a polyester from an acid component such as terephthalic acid and an glycol component such as ethylene glycol is incorporated with (A) 0.005-3wt.% based on the polyester, of spherical silica particles with an average size 0.05-0.4mum and a ratio of the major axis to minor axis 1.0-1.2 [pref., such as to be pref. <=0.3 for the relative standard deviation expressed by the relationship (Di is equivalent diameter for the circle of equal area of each particle; D is average value of said diameters; n is number of particles)] and (B) 0.005-2wt.% based on the polyester, of other inert inorganic particles with an average size 0.05-0.4mum (pref. caolin) followed by melting, film-forming, biaxial orientation, and heat-setting, thus obtaining the objective film.
