titleOfInvention Bonding of polyester fiber and rubber
abstract PURPOSE:To remarkably improve the heat-resistant adhesivity and high- temperature strength of a polyester fiber, by treating the fiber with a composition composed of a resorcinol-formaldehyde resin and a specific conjugated diene rubber latex prior to the vulcanization bonding of the fiber to a rubber. CONSTITUTION:A polyester fiber is treated with (A) a composition composed of (i) a resorcinol-formaldehyde resin and (ii) a conjugated diene copolymer rubber (e.g. butadiene-styrene copolymer) having a gel content of >=80% and gel swelling ratio of <=20 and then with (B) a composition composed of (i) a resorcinol-formaldehyde resin and (ii) a vinylpyridine-conjugated diene copolymer rubber latex. The obtained treated polyester fiber is e.g. sandwiched between rubber composition and subjected to vulcanization bonding. The gel content and gel swelling ratio of the component (ii) in the composition A can be controlled, as necessary, by using a crosslinkable monomer such as divinylbenzene.
